East Asia:
Talking about East Asia, the Republic of Korea has the largest area cover under forest. According to 2005 statistics, it stood at 63.5 percent of the total land. Although, it is worth pointing that Korea, along with Mongolia, witnessed a dip in the forest area from 54.5 percent in 1990 to 63.5 percent in 2005. In terms of statistic, Mongolia has the least proportion of land area covered under forest- 6.5 percent, down from 7.3 percent way back in 1990. Mongolia has the least while Taipei, China has the most per capita Carbon Dioxide emissions.
South-East Asia:
Believe it or not but it’s a fact that South-East Asia is the greenest area in Asia. In terms of statistics, Malaysia is the greenest country with 63.6 percent of the total land covered under forest, followed by Cambodia with 59.2 percent. On the other hand, Thailand witnessed a drastic cut in the forest area from 31.2 percent in 1990 to 3.3 percent in 2005. Singapore was the most polluted with per capita Carbon Dioxide emissions of 11.3 metric tons.
South Asia:
In terms of statistics, India is the third most environmental friendly economy in South Asia. On the other hand, Bhutan leads the chart of proportion of land covered under forest, followed by Sri Lanka and India. It is worth mentioning in this regard that India witnessed an increased in area covered under forest from 21.5 percent to 22.8 percent. Per capita Carbon Dioxide emission in India was at 1.2 metric tone in 2003, followed by Sri Lanka at 0.5 metric tone and Bangladesh at 0.3 metric tone.
Central & West Asia:
Azerbaijan scores on the list of proportion of area covered under forest. As a matter of fact, 11.3 percent of the total land in Azerbaijan is under forest. The second spot is taken by Turkmenistan with 8.8 percent followed by Pakistan, where 2.5 percent of the total area is under forest. Per capita Carbon Dioxide emission is the highest in Kazakhstan.
