Tata Group Employee Wipes out the FBI Wikipedia Page

A few month’s ago on June 19, 2007 an employee from Tata Consultancy Services in Nagar India wiped out the FBI page on Wikipedia. The user thought he was anonymous but with the new Wikipedia scanner tool by Virgil Griffith I was able to determine that a Tata employee had committed the act. Worse, the same employee (or at least the same computer) wiped out one of the Tata Wikipedia entries on May 1, 2007 then typed 5555555’s across the entire page. So the perpetrator wipes out the FBI file then wipes out his/her own company page. Not exactly a star employee.

This same user using the same IP address from Tata on April 26, 2007 wiped out an entry on the USS Hewitt. Lastly, although of course we can’t confirm the person responsible for these edits, a “Nitin Saini” used the same IP address to edit himself into a Wikipedia entry.

Griffith says he launched the project hoping to find scandals. Griffith's amount of data is enormous, so expect more controversial edits to be found. In fact, we will have a follow up report on India Government edits of Sonia Gandhi and others – stay tuned.
