The new Hyderabad International Airport which began its operations early Sunday, has handled 93,000 passengers in the past five days. The new airport, with world-class facilities, handled around 15,000 international and 78,000 domestic passengers till March 27. “Thus the airport is handling an average of 18,500 passengers per day,” said a statement by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) here Friday.
Most people travelling to the new international airport at Shamshabad prefer the route connecting High Court and Zoo Park as it helps them save six to seven kilometres. The route helps them reach the airport faster when compared to roads connecting Attapur-Rajendranagar or Chandrayangutta.
Most of the cabs are also taking the High Court-Zoo Park route to reach Aramghar, particularly before the peak hours from 8 am to 10 pm. Interestingly, the route has been consistently ignored by authorities for long. No repairs or improvements have been carried out though it is witnessing much traffic now. Between Zoo Park and the National Police Academy, the condition of the road is really pathetic. There are huge potholes as the road had been dug up for laying pipelines. The condition of the road is also bad between Petlaburz and Lal Darwaz.
On the positive side, there are four petrol stations in the five-km stretch and several motor workshops. "I used this route and it fell short by seven km," said Mr Janganna, driver of the DAV School, who went to the airport to pick up his boss.
