Review of Jet Airways

By Vipin Agnihotri

Having started flights to the United States last year, Jet Airways have all the potential to become the world's best airline. Jet Airways at this moment of time has 90 planes -- Boeing 737s & 777s and Airbuses. In addition, the carrier has ordered 30 more planes for $2.5 billion.

Jet Airways employs 10,000 people and its revenue during the fiscal year 2006-07 was $1.4 billion. By 2011, the revenue of Jet can grow to $3.5 billion. In other words, Jet Airways as a brand is pretty much established.

Between Jet Airways and Jet Light, company has about 70 Boeings. Out of which, few are Airbuses. Company also has some 8 ATR. By next year, Jet Airways will have 120 planes. Of these, 20 planes are wide-bodied 777s while 10 are Boeing 737s. The domestic market of Jet Airways is growing by 40 percent. On the other hand, their international business is growing by 18 to 20 percent. In terms of statistic, the domestic revenue of Jet Airways was $1.1 billion in 2006-2007. The total revenue of the company was $1.4 billion.

The hub of Jet Airways is Brussels as there are no slots at the Paris, Frankfurt or Amsterdam airports. It is worth mentioning in this regard that these airports are very busy and very congested in the morning. But that is not the case with Brussels, which is a very friendly airport. More importantly, there's not too much traffic. Furthermore, the airport has the capacity to handle 30 million passengers.

In my opinion, Jet Airways has created the best model in India. Point to be noted here is that it connects the smallest towns in India. Thanks to their frequency, services, standards, Jet Airways are the first choice for anybody traveling in India and out of India.

The India Street Rating: 9/10
